August in Tuscany is usually known for its warm, sunny weather – ideal for vacationers who want to enjoy the Mediterranean climate. But this year, as in some previous years, Tuscany has surprised us with an exceptionally long period of drought. For weeks we have been waiting in vain for rain, and the fields and gardens in the region are suffering from the prolonged drought.

The ground at Casa Ferruccio is also scorched and dry.

The effects of the severe drought

The severe drought in August not only affected agriculture, but also our beautiful landscapes around Casa Ferruccio. Normally, our guests enjoy the greenery. But this year the soil is dry and the plants are struggling to survive. Instead of using the precious water from our wells, we have decided to let nature take its course.

No irrigation at the Casa to protect water resources.

Why we do without irrigation

At Casa Ferruccio, we have made a conscious decision not to irrigate during this severe drought. This may seem incomprehensible at first glance, but we are convinced that we need to use water resources responsibly. In a region that relies on natural water sources, we do not want to put unnecessary strain on them. Instead, we hope for the refreshing summer thunderstorms that sometimes occur spontaneously and, of course, for the rains in the fall, which we hope will return soon.

A word to our guests

Dear guests, we ask for your understanding if the gardens and green spaces do not look as lush and well-tended as usual at the moment. It is important to us to preserve the beauty of nature in its natural state and to use resources responsibly. We hope that you will still find the peace and relaxation that Casa Ferruccio has to offer and that you will look forward to the coming rain showers with us.
