A special spring day at Casa Ferruccio
When I stayed at Casa Ferruccio in April, I heard an unusual roaring noise in the distance during the day. At first I thought it was a couple of youngsters racing their souped-up mopeds uphill to Gavorrano. But it soon became clear that this was a real motorsport spectacle – the 49th Trofeo Maremma Rally was in full swing!
The Trofeo Maremma is a traditional rally event that attracts motorsport enthusiasts from all over Italy to the region every year. Particularly exciting: the narrow, winding roads around Gavorrano provide a spectacular backdrop for the participants’ driving skills. While I was relaxing by the pool at Casa Ferruccio, the sound of engines thundered through the hills in the distance – an exciting experience, even from a distance.
Final in Follonica: an evening full of emotions
In the evening, we decided to drive to Follonica to experience the grand finale of the Trofeo Maremma Rally up close. As soon as we arrived, I could feel the special atmosphere: rally fans, families and curious visitors were everywhere, the streets of the town pulsating with energy. Groups of people had formed along the beach promenade and the anticipation of the award ceremony was literally in the air.
When the rally cars finally arrived, the square was filled with the impressive sound of engines. One by one, the cars rolled past us – some marked by the exertions of the race, others gleaming almost immaculately in the light of the setting sun. The drivers were celebrated like heroes, waving from their cars and visibly enjoying the applause of the crowd.
I particularly liked how informal and relaxed the atmosphere was. Children were allowed to take photos with the cars, the drivers were on hand to chat, and the smell of freshly baked pizza and grilled meat was everywhere. This evening showed me how deeply rooted the passion for motorsport is in the region – and how skillfully Tuscany knows how to combine sport, enjoyment and conviviality.

When the winners of the Trofeo Maremma Rally were finally honored on the podium, there was thunderous cheering. The emotions were palpable, and for a moment I felt drawn into this wonderful mixture of pride, joy and genuine Italian joie de vivre. It was an unforgettable end to an exciting day.
